RIP George McGovern, an American hero

George was one of my personal heroes. In 8th grade, I spent hours waiting to see him speak in Albuquerque. I was the only McGovern supporter in my history class, and had to take on the entire class of Nixon-lovers in a debate. Oh, how different our world would be in McGovern had won the '72 election.

I saw him again at CU-Boulder in the late 90s or early 2000s, and he hadn't lost a grain of his commitment to justice and fairness and vision of American's greatness. I wept with admiration at his strength of commitment, his vision, and his humility.

I know I'm not alone in my sadness at his passing.
